Cordoba

Cordoba is a city with thousands of years of history and the second largest old quarter in Europe, which is the largest urban space in the world to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The majority of the city's historic buildings are located in this district. The most important of these, and the symbol of the city, is the Mosque of Cordoba, which currently serves as a cathedral. The magnificent Roman Bridge is another renowned element of the city. Other reminders of the Roman era include the Roman Temple, Roman Theatre, Roman Mausoleum, colonial forum, adiectum forum, amphitheatre and the remains of the Palace of Emperor Maximianus Herculeus, located at the Cercadilla archaeological site.

Mosque of Cordoba area

Near the mosque-cathedral you will find the old Jewish quarter. This area is comprised of a multitude of winding streets, including Calleja de las Flores and Calleja del Pañuelo, where you will come across the synagogue and the Casa de Sefarad Museum. The Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos is located in the far, southwestern area of the old quarter. This was once the residence of the monarchy and the headquarters of the Spanish Inquisition. Adjacent to this building are the Caballerizas Reales (Royal Stables) where the Andalusian horse was first bred. Near the stables and next to the wall, you will find the Caliphate Baths. The Posada del Potro (Potro Inn) is located in the southern part of the old quarter, to the east of the Mosque in Plaza del Potro. This building is famous for being mentioned in literary works, for example, 'Don Quixote'. Both the inn and the square take their name from the fountain, situated in the centre of the square, that shows a foal. The Arco del Portillo (Portillo Gate) is located not far from this square.

Leisure pursuits and activities for everyone

Cordoba has many different spaces designed for kids. Children will be able to play and experience new things in these places.

These spaces also offer the opportunity to learn something new about our environment and our interactions with it. Both young and old will be able to share in the happiness and fun of it through multiple activities and attractions: Ciudad de los Niños (a play park), the zoo, equestrian school, water park, go-karting and more.
